Extra points for final exam!

1. Explain how to get to the server drives and your folder. you click server drives and then my computer, then click "jstudents" , then click photojournalism, 8th period, then go to your name.
2. Explain how we use blogger.com in this class we use it to post our blogs.
3. Explain the process of creating a pinhole camera you have to buy a oatmeal box and then fill it with black paper and and do the cap too and the you cut a square out and then you put tape around the four corners and make a flap so that it will be easy to open it and then cut a piece of aluminum foil out and tape it to the inside where the square flap will cover it and then use a pin and make a hole and close the flap :)
4. Explain how the pinhole camera works and how the image is transferred to the paper inside you open the flap for 3-6 minutes and and the light is exposed to the paper and makes the white and black on the picture.
5. Know how to define and explain the 10 rules of composition, these 10 rules will be a MAJOR portion of the final and you better know how to recognize these rules, explain these rules and show me you understand them:
5a.  Rule of thirds is if you draw an imaginary tic-tac-toe box on the box the main subject should be on the vertex of one of the lines.
5b. Balancing Elements is balance is if you cut the picture down in half both sides will have the same thing.
5c. Leading Lines is the lines will make the subject of the picture stand out or they will lead toward the subject5d. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition) is when the picture has the same thing over and over again.
5e. Viewpoint is the way the picture was taken.
5f. Background/simplicity is when the picture is not distracted by anything in the background.
5g. Create depth is when the picture is in focus on the subject and everything in the background is too.
5h. Framing is when something naturally in the picture is creating a frame around the main subject.
5i. Cropping is focusing on a certain object in the picture that might be better than the actual subject
5j. Mergers and avoiding them is when there isnt anything growing out of something or somebody.
6. Explain how action and emotion impact a photograph Action and emotion tell a story about the photo  like if a person is jumping and smiling you can tell that they are happy.
7. Explain how a photo can "tell a story" A photo can tell a story because of certain things you see in the images you might be able to relate to a facial expression or an action you see and be able to tell yourself a story
8. Explain what the word "multimedia" means and share some examples of how we have seen them in class (on the blog) multimedia means like more than one picture or video.
9. Know how to correctly write a caption. I HIGHLY suggest you rewrite the rules on your blog and find at least 2 photos on the internet, post them on your blog and write correct captions for them. This will be a MAJOR portion of the exam as well.
10. Explain how "strong action" verbs enhance a caption
11. Explain how ethics come into play in regards to photojournalism and compare and contrast this with fashion photography. You really need to get the idea that changing photos to fit a need or to make something look like something else is VERY unacceptable in photojournalism.
12. Explain the difference between a portrait and a self portrait.
13. Explain what characteristics of a good portrait are.
14. Explain what the major differences are between newspaper and yearbook. newspaper is the update and information for the school and yearbook is the pictures and activities that happened year long.?

Definitions you are responsible for (I highly recommend you post these on your blog with the definitions and make sure they are correct, many of the ones you posted on your blog previously were INCORRECT. All definitions need to relate directly to photojournalism. Example: many of you defined burning as "pain that feels hot as if it were on fire" , when the correct answer is "burning- increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker."):

1. Aperture A aperture controls the amount of light that reaches a digital camera sensor.
2. Shutter
a shutter is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.3. Exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic film during the process of taking a photograph.
4. F-stop
F-Stop is the focal length divided by the "effective" aperture
5. Single lens reflex uses a semi-automatic moving mirror system
6. Negative total inversion of a positive image, in which light areas appear dark or the other way around
7. Positive actual color of the image in black and white
8. Contact sheet photographic image produced from a film like a display of all your pics
9. Agitation - to shake move around
10. Enlarger an optical projector used to enlarge a photograph
11. Stop bath acid bath used to stop the action of a developer
12. Fixer chemical compound that sets or fixes photographs
13. Safe light light source suitable for use in a photographic darkroom.
14. Burning increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker
15. Dodging. decreases the exposure for areas of the print that the photographer wishes to be lighter

Abandoned Theme Parks

I would like to visit, Spreepark, Berlin, Germany because it's so pretty and it looks like a fairy tale place to visit, and i like the faris wheel, it's so like different, it dosent look like a normal faris wheel it looks like one that, would be in a love scene. And the pictures i would wanna take of that, would be really cool and different.

1. Beach
2. Playground
3. Parade
4. Carnival
5. Lighthouse

This place intrest me, because i know the feeling of being at the beach at dawn time and i know how it feel's to be there, it's so quiet and peacefull really enjoyable. And its like so life like and the waves are really beautiful and the tunnel with the sunset and water looks really beautiful.

The equipment i would need, is most likely a camera a really go camera a camera protector so sand wont get in it and mess up my camera, i would get a camera stand just because everything would be leveled, and just like gas money and everything and I would need money to plan my trip to the beach as well it takes alot more then just a photo.

Portraits and self-portraits - start looking

Self portrait:
Favorite professional portrait:
I think that the things that make a good photo is that the photographer takes time to look and make sure that he or she has a good picture. They are into what they do, and they actually think about what they are going to do.
I want to take a picture of someone else. Because i think that, that would be more interesting to me. Also i want my picture to be a black and white photo.

Ethics in fashion photography

Changes Made To Models Face :
They made her lips fuller, cropped her hair so it can stay the same, made her look taller by stretching her neck, made her hair look fuller and made her neck skinnier, made her eye brows skinnier, and made her eyes bigger, and made her ears smaller and hair more fuller, and brightened the picture.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
No its not because your perfect the way you are and everything about you makes you you, and its not good to change a person by what you want them to be because then everybody who sees it is going to want to look like the person.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
I think its always wrong, there's no "more wrong", You should just never do it. Everyone is beautiful in their own way.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
To me their isn't OK changes because people are beautiful the way they are so people shouldn't change their appearance.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography is more of trying to get the girls to look model like or perfect for their advertisement. So they'll photo shop the whole picture to make it perfect. Photo journalism is going by how the pictures techniques are. It's not trying to get the prettiest girl in the picture.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
All pictures are of everyday life whether it was posed or an action picture. It affects some photos because of how much photo shopping they do to a real moment.
